11th Infantry Brigade & HQ South East

11th Infantry Brigade and Headquarters South East is an adaptable force brigade based in the South of England. It was established on 1 August 2014 when 145 (South) Brigade was re-designated as HQ 11th Infantry Brigade. In December 2014 the brigade merged with 2 (South East) Brigade to form Headquarters 11th Infantry Brigade and Headquarters South East.

It is part of the Army’s ‘Adaptable Force’ meaning it has units under its command delivering operational effect and regional responsibilities across the South East of England.

The brigade has four regular battalions and two reserve battalions under its command, as well as responsibility for British Forces Brunei. It covers one of the most complex and densely populated regions in the UK comprising some 26,000 military personnel gathered across 35 garrisons and stations.

It also directly commands over 13,000 cadets as well as the Personnel Recovery Unit, based in Aldershot, and the Central Reserves Headquarters (CRHQ) of the Adjutants General Corps (AGC) based in Worthy Down.

The headquarters is based at Wavell House in Aldershot which was previously occupied by HQ 145 (South) Brigade.

History

Historically, there was an 11 Brigade which was formed and saw service in the First and Second World Wars as well as an 11 Armoured Brigade which was formed for the Second World War. These two brigades were disbanded in 1958 and 1943 respectively.

11 Armoured Brigade was reformed in the early 1970s until the late 1990s and 11 Light Brigade (an infantry brigade) was last formed for 3 years between 2007 and 2010 in order to deploy to Afghanistan. The new 11 Infantry Brigade has inherited the charging bull flash which was previously used by 11 Armoured Division and 11 Armoured Brigade.
